See if these help:

This first is from Microsoft, and usually works:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;q152104

This second adds a step if TweakUI is already installed on that pc:
http://www.aumha.org/a/nopwdlog.htm

If you are removing a lot of ancient programs, you might want to download and run RegClean (version 4.1 is the latest for Win9x I think) to help clean up the Registry. Pretty nice little program, a free download at the microsoft.com/downloads site.

My problem is a bit different, the log on screen has a name that doesnt belong to the new owner, and I had to install a nic so I will need a log on screen.
What I need to do is change the log on screen with the new owners name. BTW I dont believe anybody knows the password to the now used log on screen.

HI RobH,

Did you try GaryRouth's first link? That should work, even if the password is forgotten...

Hey Gary--YEHAAAA I figured it out. First thing I did was back up the registry, then I went regedit>HKEY local machine>Network>then I modified the user name to the owner.
Went in and renamed the old pwl files and rebooted!!!
now it comes on with the new owners name and you can bypass the password and it works.Im pretty sure the log on will be needed with the installed nic--so for now I did a workaround that worked!
The MS page you pointed me to gave me the idea to remove the pws.so thanks for the help!

Hi RobH

Glad you got it fixed. On the nic thing, I thought so too at first, but it doesn't require one, and I don't have a logon appear on any box in my little network of 2, soon to be 3 machines.

Hi Rob, hi Rails -

You guys have been working hard = Nice work.

[I might not be on the forum much tonight - a bunch of printers here at the lab seem to have taken an unscheduled holiday. . . ugh. . . fixable, but time-consuming]...

Congrats again
