XP Partitions

Somehow one of my (3) partitions has shrunk to 1GB. I would like to resize it to 10GB. It was mentioned on here that you could resize partitions in WIN XP. Is that possible and if so, how?

hi teeb
i take it by shrunk you meant you used it up.because there has been articles on lost hard drive space with xp.there is quite a few free progs for resizing partitions without data loss, cant recall off hand but can help you find some if you like.i dont know if you can do it with xp without data loss.

newme: By shrunk I mean it was a 10GB partition and now it's a 1GB. Don't know how that happened.

David_jones: I have Partition Magic 6.0 and 7.0. I had heard you could resize within XP. Without using a third party utility.

Lil Jimmie would know???

I don’t know what caused the drive partition to shrink from 10 gigs to 1 gig, but to resize the partition with Disk Management you first have to delete the partition/s to be resized then create a new partition and format. Backup your data before you begin and if this is the XP system partition you will need a third party utility.

Thanx Jimmie, knew you would have the answer. Have you ever heard of a partition shrinking like that??

Interesting, but unfortunate, problem TEEB.

PM 7.0 should be able to resize it but it still doesn't explain why it happened. It like something has altered the MBR or partition tables.

Have you done a full virus scan?
