it's been a while since my last clean install of win98 but i seem to remember i had some problems back then cause netbeui was not installed, therefore it should not be included by defrault in the win98 however the last time i saw a machine with a windows preinstalled ( in that case it was win95 in a achine without cd drive) i was able to install netbeui dirrectly from the preinstall directory. herefor it stand to reason that win 98 will be the same
i don't know whether you are talking about a normal installed win98 (from cd) or a machine that has a pre install. annyway i hope this is helpfull |

Prolly because by the time 98 came out most people had moved to the tcp/ip protocol standard and netbeui and ipx/spx can cause issues with broadband connectivity. The ipx/spx is netware protocol. While netware is still being used, it's not as predominant as it once was.
