Internet connection box at bootup

This is annoying, every time I boot up my computer (windows me) I get the internet connection box come up on screen and of course I have to close it before the computer will finish its boot up.I dont want to connect to the internet each time I boot my computer so I need to know if there is something I can do to stop this from happenning. It never use to do this but I dont know how to get it back to the way it was before when I had to manually open the connection box to connect to the internet.

Once windows is completely up, go to the start>run box and type msconfig then OK, you will now have a little window with tabs at the top, click on the startup tab and from there you can uncheck anything that you do not want to load when windows starts up. One to leave checked is scanreg, you want to keep that one and I think systray will be there and you want to leave that one alone. You may see many other things in there and one should be that internet connection thing, so just uncheck it, apply it and either reboot or say no to reboot and nexttime you do you should not get that little annoyance. The other thing that may be causing this is look under control panel>windows updates, and turn off automatic updating!

If you are using Internet Explorer ,go to tools>internet options>connections and see if the box "dial whenever a connection isn't present " is checked . if so remove the check and reboot to see if that fixes it.
