Question Win98 problem

Ok, Im doing this for a friend, she has Windows 98, and she has a virus, she doesnt know what the virus is, or where it is located, she really doesnt have any backup disks, and hasn't really touched it until I came over today. I have fixed it the most i could. Before I got here she couldnt even get her computer to startup. Now that i have fixed it, i thought it was fixed 100%, just as she was installing 8.0 it was acting up again, is there anything i can use to to repair it like any spyware???

How did you fix it? Did you do a virus search? If so, tell her to check all of the CDs she used before the return of the problem, also tell her to do a spyware search using Ad-aware.
What do you mean by "installing 8.0"?

Ok, heres what happened

I told her to press some buttons after she pressed the power key because she uses a labtop, so she pressed like all the buttons, then she got to CTRL-Alt-Delete, held it down for a minute and all of a sudden it appeared. she gave me the computer, I logged in Safe Mode so I couldnt get the computer in any worse, and went in and deleted a lot of the games she downloaded, the affects of the virus, error, whatever it is gave her porn out the ying yang, made the screen turn purple, silver and all of that, she then switched monitors and got on her home computer monitor and it did the same thing, so we are 100% sure there is something wrong with the labtop, so i deleted movies, deleted anything that looked suspicious, plain and simply, i deleted anything that didnt start up, manually deleted anything that didnt have uninstall shield, now I think there is a virus, but im not sure, she can use the computer, but not for downloading usage, ive already informed her step dad to not let her download anything until they get Nortan Anti Virus and until he figure out whats she downloading. Thats the only restriction i told her to do, and if it continues to act up after she gets Nortan, then take it to a shop because im well out of ideas.

No I didnt do a virus search, because she has no protection besides some cheap ass **** that couldnt even detect me in the computer what so ever.

As for Installing 8.0, I mean AOL 8.0. Sorry, i wasn't thinking correctly when i posted Installing 8.0

After you run the virus scan, try AdAware to remove possible spyware. It's a very small and quick download, and easy to use. Considering all the other things on the computer, I imagine KaZaa might have been on there, and it's going to need to go. Here's the link for AdAware: http://www.lavasoft.de

Then, since you've deleted both with and without uninstallers, the Registry is going to be full of broken links and leftovers. You can try a run of RegClean. Just make a new folder in the C: drive (I usually simply name it Registry Cleaner), download the file to that folder, extract it to the same folder, and then read the ReadMe.txt file for instructions. Basically all you do is double-click the RegClean.exe file & let it work & let if "Fix Errors". Here's a download link for that:

If you do purchase Norton AntiVirus 2003, remember to 1st let it boot from the Norton CD, which will run a thorough system scan from DOS (and take a long time ~30mins+) - that will make sure any viruses don't corrupt the installation.

HouseCall will help a lot with finding viruses, since it's always up-to-the-minute updated with it's definitions.

Best of luck
