Installing Win95 on D:

Yes i know this is a dinosaur system, but it is being put on a very old computer. i'm trying to get Win95 installed on a machine that is running Win3.1. The machine runs 3.1 quite happy, but we want some interenet stuff of it, which 3.1 wont support. we have the email and explorer type programs (opera 6) but we need a new os.
The Win95 cd wont give the option to install on D:, and we cant reformat c: and try it from scratch because all the boot disks we have (courtesy of www.bootdisk.com) doesnt find the cd drive!
What can i do?
