Can't obtain proper IP Address WIN98SE

Hello all,

I seem to have all my ducks in a row, but for some reason I am not able to obtain the proper IP Address on one of my Win 98SE machines. Here is the scoop of what heppend: My 98 machine had the problem with the NEWDOT.dll missing file and wasn't able to obtain an IP Address. I was able to remove the spyware as well as the error msg that kept on popping up. Now I direct connect my cable modem into it and it won't obtain an IP Address. Windows just assigns it the default IP, SM, Default Gateway? I haven't worked in 98 that long and tell me if I'm wrong, but when I pull up winipcfg and it is defaulted to ppp Adapter. I have to click on the drop down arrow to get the NIC adapter. Should it default to the NIC adapter or does it not matter? I have it set to obtain an IP Address automatically but to no avail. I can obtain an IP address instantly on my XP Pro machine if I remove the cable and replug? If you need any more info please let me know. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. TIA Snakeyes
