Hi sanda,

Which OS are you using?

Have you checked in the Startup folder to see if the game shortcut icon is in there? If it is, delete it.

HI Cricket,
I'm using XP but it's not in the start up folder. it's easy enough to close it but it's just annoying.

Hi sanda,

You can try checking Start>Run>type in "msconfig">Startup tab and uncheck the entry for the game if it's in there.

If it's not there either, try starting up the game and check in the options screen.

What game is this anyway?

Yes,

What games is it?

If not a well-known game, did you buy it on CD or download it from the internet?

I've never come across a game that sets itself up that way.

Have you looked at MSCONFIG to see if it's loading via the Registry?

Start Menu
Run
Type "msconfig" without the quotes into the Open box and click OK.
Look in the Startup Items section
(This should show what's loading from the Startup folder AND the Registry)
Untick it the game (or anything else you don't want to run at Startup)
Click on Apply.
Reboot as ordered.

You don't have the game CD in the CD-Rom all the time?

Remember, each user account also has a Startup folder. You can find these by going to C:\Documents and Settings, clicking the folder for the particular user name, and navigating down through Start Menu and Programs folders to the individual Startup folder.

So if you have different user accounts, it would be interesting to look in these too.

Might be worthwhile scanning for virii, trojans, or malware.

For virii use your anti-virus

For malware use AD-aware

For Trojans use The Cleaner

Virtual Drive is the name of a program (and there are other of this type) that allows you to copy a CD to a space on your hard drive. This space in turn looks like a CD-Rom Drive with the selected CD inserted. This way you can play the game or run a program which requires the CD to operate. It does not work with many of the copy protected games.

Interesting.

I've read about it but never used it.

So it was like having a virtual CD in a virtual CD-Rom drive - and that's why the game started.

The program must give you options of whether to load a game into the virtual drive at Startup. I would just change the settings and keep the program so you can run the game when you want to.

yes iyou're right it's like haveing the virtual CD in the virtual CD rom drive. I'll read the instructions it may tell me if I have th option of turning the "auto play off" :-) The game is Monopoly Tycoon I have the original CD but it's handy not having to put the CD in as my son can use the CD in the other computer and we can play against each other.

I could have saved my self a lot of time and effort if I had just read how to use the program.. It's pretty cool actually, you can "eject" the virtual disk from the virtual drive therefore solving the loading problem.
