Trouble downloading updates in XP
I'm trying to download the service pack 1 for XP but get this message: "setup could not verify the integrity of the file update.inf Make sure the Crytographic service is running on this computer" How do I adress this?
When I first tried, it wanted to update the update thingy and said that I should except the apps. that popped up which I did. I was then told to reboot. Now windows finds what updates I need but won't download them, instead gives me the above message. |

Add http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to your trusted sites section of IE, tools, internet options, security.

That doesn't work. Since my last post I've checked the Crytographic service on my computer and it's running,, that is according to Services.msc. I searche for update.inf and it isn't found. I guess it wasn't downloaded when I cliked yes in Update. I'm gonna search for it on the web. Any more suggestions???

I did that reboot and went back to winupdate and tried it by selecting three driver files to download. It worked fine. So I selected the Service Pack 1 and hit download and get the same message, "setup could not verify the integrity of the file update.inf. Don't understand why it would install those other files but not the SP 1. Again, I searched for the file and can't find it. I don't know where to locate it if it isn't on my PC.

Well, have you tried going to the alternate download site, and saving the file to the hd, then installing it?
In search options, are you telling it to search, including hidden and system files? Do you really need the SP1 anyhow? |

Good question reboot. I'm not sure I do. I followed anothers advice and found that the file is already in my update folder in windows. I tried to execute it and got the same message. I deleted it and tried to download it again and got the same message, like I hadn't even deleted it. In fact when it starts to download and it's like it's already here, which it is??? Even after I deleted it.

I would boot to safe mode, then do a search for it, including hidden and system files, THEN restart and try the updates site.
You can always download SP 1 DIRECT from http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...sp1_en_x86.exe |
