Hard Disk Always Accessing -- Office 2000?? Please Help
How can I get my hard drive to spin down? The light blinks all the time and it is noisy.
I have 512 memory so I don't think it needs to be accessing this much. I also don't put much of a load on it -- surfing, word processing, listening to streaming media mostly I suspect there is something going on with installed software. I have Office 2000 - is this configured to use the hard drive a lot for stupid unnecessary microsoft things like indexing or whatever? I also downloaded the service pack. ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED! PC MECH ROCKS! Western Digital 80 gig with 8mb cache asus a7v333 xp 2100 windows xp |

Hi rdlaing,
Check to see if Find Fast is in your start menu, if it is take it out. Do a seach for Find Fast, I believe the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE but I'm not sure. After you locate it, execute it and see if it is indexing your drive, if it is turn it off. This program is constantly looking for word files so they boot up for you quicker, personally I'll wait the extra second it takes for the file to come up and not have that program searching my HD constantly. HTH

That's funny it installed itself when I installed Ofc 2000 in XP. I hope you find what is causing it in your PC, I know how annoying that can be.
