startup programs
i have quite a few programs that seem to start up (most of them in the background), when my computer starts. does anyone know which ones i should have startup and which ones i dont need/ right now in my system tray i have zonealarm, quicktime, sb live, nortons virus scanner, and some things where i can change my video card settings (ATI). anyone know how i can get some of these from not starting up when computer starts? are there ones i absolutely have to have to have the computer start? thanks.

start > run > msconfig, then click on the startup tab. you will see all the programs that start with a check next to them. simply uncheck the ones that you dont want to startup when your computer starts.

I keep startup clean. And it's something I do to almost everyone whose computer I touch. You'd be shocked and horrified to know how many people are running their systems at 50% resources because of all the crap in startup. Of course their system is running slow... NOT their DSL. ::grumblemuttercuss::
If I don't know what a file is in startup, I go out to http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup...artup_full.htm and check it out. |

XP doesn't use "resources" per se - just physical memory and CPU time. OS resources is a Win9x thing.
