chopper, from the dos prompt:> type the following " format c: /s " without the quotes, and it will ask some questions about losing all data the drive so make sure you have your important files backed up. good luck with your reformatting job.
Also welcome to PC-Mech. |

Hi chopper5685,
Welcome to PC Mech. First of all, what kind of PC is this? Is it a home built or a store bought name brand PC? Are you using a true Win98SE installation CD or a Restore or Recovery CD? Are you using a Win98SE startup/boot disk that has CD-ROM support on it? If not, go to bootdisk.com and download one. Or you can make a startup/bootdisk right from the Win98SE CD. To make a better Windows 98 bootdisk than the one that came with your Windows CD, put in your CD and seek out \tools \mtsutil \fat32ebd \fat32ebd.exe and double click on the file. Follow the on-screen instructions. If you created several partitions on your hard drive, the CD-ROM's drive letter will move several letters. And the bootdisk you're using may have created a RAM drive, so take that into account too. To find the correct drive letter, type in the drive letter you think the CD-ROM drive is and then type in "dir" (without the quotes) and hit Enter. You're looking for a drive that has directories and files in it. Look for WIN98 and setup.exe. You can also boot directly to the Win98SE CD and do the installation from there. Go into BIOS and change the first boot device to the CD-ROM, make sure the IDE position the CD-ROM drive is on is set to AUTO. Save and Exit. Put the Win98SE CD in the CD-ROM drive and reboot the PC...it'll boot from the Win98SE CD and the installation will proceed. Cricket
