Windows 2000 Slow Down Problems
Everytime I run an application on Windows 2000, my computer gets slower and slower. I checked the task manager and it turns out everytime I run an application, rundll32.exe appears. The only problem is it doesnt shut down when I close a program, so I end up with 10 copies of rundll.exe in the task manager. This is eating my memory. Any advice?

Hi Pimpmaster,
Might be worthwhile scanning for virii, trojans, and malware. For virii use an up to date anti-virus For malware use AD-aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ For Trojans use The Cleaner http://www.moosoft.com/ HTH |

Ran both test and found nothing. The problem seems to be that programs don't completly shut down when I close them.

Have you run an up to date Virus Scan?
What happens when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del and "Endtask" these programs that won't shut down? |

I have Anti Virus 2002, and checked Symantics virus database for anything involving rundll32 and found nothing.
I'd have to close each rundll32 at a time, and after a while I while I end up having a hundred of them. |

Do you have a file called run32.exe in your Windows directory?

Well, I've updated my Virus Definitions, ran virus scan in safe mode, checked for wierd files (like run32) and still get the same problem. The only thing I can think of now is either search my entire registry for "rundll32" to see if there's anything suspiscous, or delete "rundll32", which I don't want to do unless I have no choice.
Is there another way to fix this problem? |
