My friend just bought a bare bones system and I am trying to install windows XP on it on a brand-new hard drive.
I partitioned and formated the drive and used a 98 boot disk to get into DOS, then I installed Smart-drive and opened E:cd\I386. Then I ran WINNT (the dos part of the install) Then it went through the instalation, and told me to restart and remove any disks in the drive. I took out the floppy, restarted to complete the install, and when the computer restarted it said "Verifying DMI Pool Data" and it will not go past this part....... any help is appreciated, I have tried everything Thanks guys |

Check to see if the hard drive jumpers are properly configured and the IDE cables are properly installed, also check to see if the bios boot order is properly configured.

You don't need to install DOS with WINXP, as you are not able to use really any DOS commands. WINXP has it's own built in commands.

the computer came configured with all the stuff he bought with it, video card, the hard drive, and memory so im guessing that all the jumpers are correct. We installed the cd-rw and i followed instuctions for the install EXACTLY, i just cannot figure out what that message means... "verifying DMI Pool Data" when i put the boot disk back in and restart... it gets past that message

lil Jimmie has a very good point. It is a very bad idea to assume anything!
Check and double check, good luck Jim |
