more RAM worth it

I have 384MB RAM on my system running winXP pro, CompUSA has 512MB PC133 RAM chips on sale for only $30 right now (after $20 mail in rebate) just wondering if for someone like me, who hardly ever runs more then a couple programs at the same time, if there's a performence improvment that I will notice. For that price I dont think I can pass it up, even if I will not notice any improvment. At the very least it will let me run winXP with the virtual memory turned off, runs nice and fast that way.

You're probably not using all the ram you have now. Adding more won't make any difference.

Hi ssahl,

Adding more RAM might not help in your situation, but it won't hurt either. For that price, why not add more? The way you use your computer might change in the near future (photo editing, video editing, audio work, etc...).

One can (almost) never have too much RAM.
On a really demanding OS like XP Pro, there's quite a difference between 256meg and 512 meg. At that price, I say go for it, and while you're there, can you get me one? I'll gladly send you a money order by return post.

Everything I have read says not to expect much performance increase by using more than 256mb of RAM. My experience with XP is that more is better. I have one notebook that has 512mb and my desktops all have 768mb or more. If it were me I would go for it.

Yea, cant really pass that up. Will be going there this weekend. It's even from a fairly good company, PNY (as far as RAM goes) if I had more then 1 system that I was using right now I would probably get 2 or 3, & I still may get 2 of them, even though I only have one empty slot left on my motherboard.
