Get a bootdisk. www.bootdisk.com
Boot the computer to that disk.
At the A:\ prompt, type: format c: /u
If that doesn't work, at the A:\ prompt, type: fdisk
Remove all partitions, restart, run fdisk again, make new partition, make it active, then change boot order in BIOS to boot from CD, insert XP CD, restart, install.

Just wondering why use fdisk when xp cd will delete, create, format and give you the choice of file system to use?

ok, ok, there's always another way of doing things...
Call me "old school", but I like to boot to a floppy to fdisk at least.
That way I know for sure if the system is seeing the hard drive, and using it's full capacity or not.

Reboot,
You won't be able to FORMAT when you boot up into DOS and type in A:\Format C:\, because FORMAT is not a valid command with Windows XP. That is why if you want to partition, format, install WinXP, you will have to use the WINXP cd. Or you can get Partition Magic.

PM does not install operating systems though. Only Partitions and Formats.

Sheesh, I know the stupid XP disk doesn't have "Format".
Yet another reason to use a proper boot disk, and why I provided the link to get one.
