win xp problems--

new installation problems:

(a) No icons on desktop--how do i get icons to appear on desktop?

(b) attempting to call ISP (ATT)..get "ppp" network error with a code number..how can i troiubleshoot/correct this?

system worked fine with WIN98SE!

Did you do an upgrade to win98 using xp upgrade disk or are we talking clean install of winxP??

To get your icons back right click on the desktop then choose "arrage icons by" . You will see a choice to show desktop icons, check it.

I thought setting up the dial-up internet connection was a snap. Use the Internet Connection Wizard and just answer the questions such as the number you dial to, the user ID and password and I was up in seconds.

i installed winxp home right over win98se...chose not to use the nt.. partition method......will i have to totally erse the hdd and install xp from scatch?

also--i sed setup wizrd. but i get appp-network error?

No eshort you should not have to reinstall and loose everything, but perhaps removing and reinstalling the dial-up connection to your ISP will put it back in order. That should be a fairly simple painless process.

If you just installed XP and don't have any files or other programs in yet,you would be better to install XP fresh. I've heard of problems from installing over 98 or ME.
