Dual boot problem (XP and ME)

My setup is as follows:

WindowsME on C: drive (40gb) (FAT32)
WindowsXP on D: drive (20gb) (NTFS)

I recently wiped XP on the D: drive which was FAT32 and reinstalled XP on the D: drive under NTFS.

I've now noticed that whilst I am using WindowsME the D: drive (with XP) is invisible.

My C: drive is there, as is my E:, F:, and G: CD/DVD-ROMs but the D: drive is hiding!!!

WindowsME used to show the D: drive ok when it had the FAT32 system but now with it using the NTFS system it's GONE under WindowsME.

Please note that under WindowsXP all the drives appear OK.

What's going on?

Fat32 can't read NTFS, but NTFS can read FAT32.

Windows 95/98/ME do not recognize NTFS partitions. The system will run fine otherwise it just will not be able to access NTFS in any way. The OS doesn't know how to read it.

Windows 2000/XP will see FAT 32 and NTFS, so the both drives show up.

Also, for future reference, watch your drive letters. Because Windows ME doesn't see the NTFS and XP does the drive letters for other drives may not be the same from both ME and XP.

In XP you can convert from FAT32 to NTFS but not the other way around. You would need a 3rd party app like Partion Magic to convert it back.

I recommend keeping things the way they are and storing your data files on C: so you can access them from both OSes.
