I've had this issue before in XP and have always been able to delete files using the command prompt. This is accessible through "Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt. You should be able to navigate to the file using "cd\file path" and then use the "delete" command by typing the word "delete" followed by a space then the actual file name. If you need more details on using these old DOS commands respond back and I will try to give you more details.

There is no delete command in DOS, it is del. If the file is more than 8 letters long you won't be able to see all of it since it will be truncated as such: longfil~.avi .

the filename has a period and then a space. the command prompt thinks it ends with the period. (ie, file. name.exe is thought to be file.) any ideas? thanks.
