What'cha mean hon? Unchecking anything on the general tab or startup tab will keep them from loading when Windows loads (see disclaimer at the bottom). However, the software remains on the system. You can still run the programs whenever you like, they just won't be consuming resources unnecessarily by loading along with Windows and lurking in the background all the time.
____ Disclaimer: You may uncheck things here then go back and find them checked again. Some programs have it set in the registry to put itself back if taken out of the startup group. Most legitimate programs do not do that. Spyware, viruses, adware, etc. will fight you tooth and nail to remain on your system. |

well it seems that a webpage that I was browsing loaded some xxx links to my startup registry, I don't want them to loadup or any popups when kids are on here. I have removed all files that are connected to that item found in MSCONFIG but it is still present in the MISCONFIG...
hope this clears it up a little thanks |

Hey Toolman35
If you have adaware, run it. If you don't have it get it at adaware . It is a freebie and will tell you how to remove adware from your pc. You should also dump your temporary internet files. click on tools mouse down to and click internet options. Should be a section for temporary internet files. Click on delete files. This is if you are running internet explorer. I'm no good with netscape. cat

Catfish I use spyware and have removed all registry links and info, it's just that this thing is still present in the MSCONFIG box when I run it from start> RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP then I find it there, however it is not ckecked and does not run anymore. I just thought there had to be a way to get rid of unwanted items found here. Maybe not I just thought there was.
Thanks |

i think you have to remove them from the registry there should be a location next to the file you are talking about..and delete it from the registry.. i think,,,,,,,,,,,,just be careful messing with the registry, i am not postive on this...but i am pretty sure i am correct.

Start, run, type regedit. Under Registry, select export and save to desktop. This backs it up, although it should already be backed up daily if selected in msconfig.
Then, start, run, type regedit. You'll see a tree. Select the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Under current version (as above), you'll see also: Run- RunOnceEx RunServices- RunServicesOnce RunServices Open each one and you'll find the items you want. Right click each item undesired and select delete. Exit out

RegCleaner can do it for you, plus more: RegCleaner. Only thing is you have to have them checked for them to show up.

Just to add to Sarge's post
If your computer boots normally and everything runs properly, delete the backup registry file from your desktop and empty your Recycle Bin. If your computer does not boot,
If your computer boots, and your programs don't run properly, doubleclick the back up registry file on your desktop. This will restore your registry. |
