lost works document

my friends dad was typing a 12 page final paper for the collage he attends recently. The other night, the paper dissappeared. The file is still there, but there are no words. They have tryed and tryed and cant get the stuff back. Can any one help? its pretty important. tia

open the file and see if "undo" in the edit menu brings it back.......

is the file size the expected size for the document? is the font color set to white? (white on white would look like a blank doc - I played this joke on some one at work myself)

Was there a system failure and maybe a file in temp folder?

there wasnt a failure, it just happened....thanks for the responses guys, but he already started retyping it and saved it as the same file, so its too late
