My new build has been freezing up and causing a lot of errors in windows xp. Not sure if it's the system temp or it could just be software conflicts?
Should I format again? I just made this system over the weekend so it wouldn't be too much trouble to reinstall. |

Hi Abor,
Have you checked the CPU temps in the BIOS? |

I've gone into the bios but I haven't been able to find where it tells you the CPU temp?
Btw whats a good temp range for a Intel P4? |

Could be bad memory too.
Your CPU should be below 60C. If it's heat-related, the problem will reoccur after you restart the machine and disappear if the machine is allowed to sit for a bit and cool down. Try it with the case open also to see if the problem continues. |

just checked. I can't find it in the bios, but using a cpu temp program it says its 41.5 C.
So I think that is okay since is < 60 C. I think I might have just tried to install so much at once the other day and caused a lot of conflicts. Now outlook won't fully close and my video drivers are screwy from installing them about 5 times. :\ Time to format? hehe |

open the computer and check to make sure your CPU fan is running.... if it isnt, then there is your problem
if it is... then try running the computer with the side cover off and see if you still get the errors |

Abor,
Have you properly applied Thermal Compound to the core of your CPU and the core of the Heatsink? How is your Fan setup? How many Fans do you set? Make sure you have a fan that is blowing out the hot air from the HSF. Never trust computer programs that tell you your CPU temp. It is best to do it in the BIOS. What kind of motherboard do you have? Did it come with a CD? I know that some motherboards provide a very accurate program for temperature monitoring during WINDOWS if you are not able to check it in the BIOS. You said you just made the system this weekend. Your hard drive is still brand new. Formatting will not help solve your problem. You either have an overheating problem or your RAM is bad. BIOS settings set to default? RAM speed is set to SPD? Make sure you are not running any high performance settings. Do what J Phillies suggested, run with the case off. If problems stop after your case has been off for a while, then you will have to rearrange your Case Fan Setup. |

I have a D845PESV intel motherboard with 512 corsair ddr333 ram.
I'm not entirely sure how I would check the cpu temp from the bios since I went in there about an hour ago to look for it specifically. The intel cd I got with the mobo just has some utilities and other misc things on it. My comp was freezing/crashing if I did something video heavy. I'm using the ATI radeom 9700 Pro card and if I switch over to start watching tv from my hauppauge card it freezes. Or if I alt tab out of one of my games it says there is an error. One of my games reports a conflict with an ati dll file so I"m not really sure how to interpretate the meaning of those errors. OH well thanks for the ideas.

Which ATI video driver are you using? The one from the driver CD or from the ATI website? What about DirectX? Have you updated it? Can you provide your complete system specs? What antivirus program are you using? Cricket
