Why can't I update Win XP?

I have reinstalled XP and lost all of the updates that I had previously downloaded. Now when I go to Update, it scans my system and says that there aren't any updates available at this time. What am I doing wrong?

And I have activated XP. I had to do it over the phone because I kept getting a message saying I couldn't connect to the server. Do I need to register it again too?

Did you have to reformat the entire hard drive when you reinstalled XP? If you didn't, it's possible that the files still exist on the hard drive. Also, did you choose to perform a Dynamic Update during installation. If you did, it may have downloaded the updates then, but not too sure on that. I think, though, that if it scans your system and comes up with no updates available, then your probably looking good.

If you said yes to the dynamic update (second step in the installation of XP) then you've already got all the updates, except for maybe IE6 SP1.

Hello Reboot, I was again mistaken. I spoke to the fellow who helped me get up and running and he said that because he has broadband dish that he went ahead and downloaded the updates for XP. Who knew? Thanks for the posts though. Everything seems to be running ok except that in the game, Hitman, I sometimes receive a error message and the game quits. I'm not real sure what the best config of my 9700 pro graphics card is. I have set OpenGL to 4X AA with no anisthropic filtering. And D3D the same. The game looks better in OpenGL but the default is D3D. I race the Nascar 2002 season sim and it works really well. I need to load my Microsoft Flight Sim 2002 and see how it works.
