My computer is going crazy!!
In IE its been rendering HTML pages incorrectly resulting in images appearing in the wrong places.
After a while my computer completely drops the sound driver, no more sound and I have to restart to get it back. IE freezes up sometimes when I start moving around sites really fast using my back and foward keys on my intllimouse. All sorts of wierd stuff. I just formatted and re-installed XP Pro yesterday!! My video quality could be better. Programs are freezing up and XP can't kill them even with CTRL+ALT+DEL! Its complaining about Java not being installed when it already is! OMG, do I need to just build a new system? I will if I have to. An example of the IE problem is included, its a screenshot from vhforums. |

Uninstall the Google search bar, then run a repair of IE.

Yup. IE likes to be a standalone browser, yet there are numerous 3rd party bunches like Google that seem to think you need an add-on to make it easier to use. I find that it's a good way of making it unuseable. IE is so integrated with MS and MSN stuff, it doesn't play well with other children.
In order to repair IE, you first need to uninstall any 3rd party stuff, or the repair will fail, and you can't simply uninstall IE from add/remove programs either. Admittedly, Google isn't the worst culprit, but instead of adding any 3rd party crap, just build a custom homepage, and put google search on it, or use a portal like Yahoo, Excite, or Lycos, and customize the start page. |

Any WYSIWYG editor, Frontpage express comes with 98 and works fine, there are numerous free ones.
Just copy/paste any bits of other web pages that you like, google search (I think there's even a link so you can get the code to put it on your homepage), CNN news, whatever you want. Save it somewhere on your hard drive, and then open it in IE, go to tools Internet options, and under "Home page", just click "Use Current". |

Hmmm, haven't got any links, but it's too simple.
Open FPX (or any other WYSIWYG editor) For those of you who are acronym challenged, FPX is Front Page Express, and WYSIWYG is "What You See Is What You Get". Open IE. Find google, and drag the mouse over the search box, and any related text you want, including the buttons to highlight it. Hit CTRL+C Go back to FPX, and hit CTRL+V. Now you can crop, edit out bits that don't quite look right, whatever. Do that with anything you see on the web. Some things just won't work, and most need a little editing, but it gets easier as you go. Once you've got a few things, save the page anywhere on your hard drive. Open it in IE, then go to tools, Internet options, and set homepage to "current". Done. FPX actually writes pretty shoddy code, so I wouldn't put anything like that on the web, but it's great for your personal page that nobody else sees. If you prefer Netscrap, there's a free WYSIWYG editor with it as well, that actually writes cleaner code than FPX. |
