Question svchost.exe

what is this? i noticed it under task manager and it is taking up over 50% of my "cpu usage"...there is actually a bunch of them...but hte one im concerned about is under "Local Service". if someone could tell me what this is i'd appreciate it. tia

It is not uncommon to have more than one instance of srvchost.exe running. Here is a MS KB Q250320 on the subject.
