nt4-2k compatibility

ok, I got a liscenced distro of 2k from school, I install and the first time it has a bunch of problems loading files, so I just reinstalled-- 1 file didn't get copied

question1-- should I just wait for a program to ask for the file (i didn't look cause I thought it was gonna give me a list of 20 files like it did the time before) or should I try and "repair" using the disk

question2-- when I installed this old copy of Norton v. 5, I installed the NT version and 2k says that it's not the correct version for the OS. Which would be better under the environment 9x or NT? Am I ok to run either-- it's antivirus, I'm paranoid. How different are NT4 and 2k anyways?

thanx,

1) The only time I've had that problem is if the drive or the media was bad. On one, I kept track of which files were missing and copied them off of another PC. If it's not a crucial file, a repair might not pick up that it's missing.

2) They're different enough to need an antivirus program that's designed for 2k. Norton 2001 might be the first version that was 2k compatible.

updates: on the file thing.

I'm wondering if my DVD drive doesn't like burned CD's (this is an educational distro I got from school) cause I've realized it's been sluggish on the backup's I made. I hadn't realized it as much before.

on the AV, any other suggestions would be great. If I don't hear anything else, I guess I'll think about shelling out some money for a 2k version (it's 50 bucks, but I'm not made of money...)

Anyways, I'm wondering if Norton might have a small business liscense, cause I need to do this on a couple... does anyone know off-hand, otherwise I'll do some research

educational liscence woudl be even better

Moderators: I'm going to start another post on the AV question, specifically, I thought I'd post it here since I'd already gathered some attention

solution

yeah, I was just curious if anyone knew off-hand. I looked around and the wonderful half-priced books in my town has 2 copies: Internet Security 2k2 and System Works 98(which I would assume supports 2k, but I'll have to check when I pick it up)

so, thanx, but I think I've found a solution. I'm ecstatic-- I don't have to spend $200!!

Mods: thanx, you can close this up if you like now
