CD-ROM Not Recognized
I've lost the use of my CD-ROM running windows 2000 Advanced Server. the device manager lists the device with an error 31. Here's the report: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31). "
I receive the following Service message "Cdralw2k service failed to start. The service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I have tried many things, including - 1) UNINSTALLING the drive and REINSTALLING IT using the HARDWARE WIZARD and Plug-and-Play auto-detection 2) Removing the drive physically and replacing it after a successful boot 3) Booting up under SAFE mode and installing the device. This error started when I inadvertently loaded the HP CD/RW Creator software (it autoloaded from my drive when I was looking at the CD-ROM contents). That process appeared to have wiped out something critical. Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

Yes, I did uninstall the HP software. The system boots up okay now, it just doesn't recognize the CD-ROM per the messages in my initial post.
