installing cdrom driver files on setup disc

I need the commands and syntax to do the following operation:

I have two floppies: (a) is a setupboot disc for win98se, (b) is the driver disc for an external cdrom.

Need to know which files must be transferred frm (b) to (a)
and
the syntax and commands to do so.

many thanks.

(this is to install win98se into a notebok lacking an internal cdrom..and one whose BIOS does not allow for booting from a cdrom).

(I know such files as MSCDEX and the cdrom system files need transferring..and..there has to be ab "autoexec.bat and config.sys on the setupboot disc but not sure how to check/do these functions nor which files from cdrom setup disc need transferring --how to so transfer!!).

many thanx...

If the driver disk for the external cdrom has DOS drivers on it, I think you can just copy them onto the Win98se bootdisk - it will load them if it sees them on the floppy(?maybe?). Is it a parallel port, PC-Card, serial, or USB external? I don't think there are DOS drivers for USB externals, but then I've never checked.

What is on the laptop now? You have the option of installing the external on the older OS, and then installing via the "Upgrade" option.

Best of luck & Happy Holidays

it is a Bakapk parellel port external cdrom

The generic drivers on mt win98 setupboot discs do not work!

I guess i hv to copy the bak[ak driver setup files to the bootdisc?

what would be the command/syntax to do this?

thanx.

Since notebooks are so notoriously proprietary, have you considered upgrading from within Win95? Since Win95 can find the cd-drive, it should be no problem with an "upgrade" edition.

Do you have the "upgrade" or "OEM" edition?

Otherwise, I haven't tried putting a parallel port cd-driver on a bootdisk yet: I suppose you could try just using the copy command to add it to your bootdisk, and see if it works. If it has a ReadMe.txt file, it might have some tips for you in there (like what lines, if any, might need to be added to a config.sys file).

Best of luck
