Hi,

are you sure you uninstalled Messenger ? The Messenger entry in add/remove windows components is hidden by default. You need to remove the word HIDE (but don't remove a comma, leave the two commas where they are) in sysoc.inf, then you will be able to uninstall Messenger.

Before uninstalling I'd recommend to close Messenger. Rightclick on the icon in systray and select "close".

That one prolly needs to be disabled also but has nothing to do with Windows Messenger.

Hi All,
I have just done everything is these posts, and guess what?
The icon is Still there....I am beginning to believe this this is indestructible.
The icon only comes when i start up outlook express. Its X'ed out(like its not running). When I right click and click EXIT,it says other programs are using it.Please MAKE IT GO AWAY!!

Thanks

Its Gone

Hi All,
I guess i didnt try everything.I did the one on the other thread where ya enter RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
in the start/run menu, and now its gone.
However,,,,i got an error(see attachment).
Does this error mean anything?
It seemed to work, but im wondering if I messed up anything else.
Thanks to everyone.

Go Run and type msconfig, go to the start-up tab and uncheck it.

This might sound to easy but if it only comes up when yu run Outlook express make sure you have the checkbox labeled "Automatically logon to Windows Messenger"in the General tab uner the Options menu is unchecked. That might explain why the icon comes up with an x through it, is because the program is no longer there to run. Hope this helps!

Hi Mick,
Thanks for your reply.Thats what was so crazy about this little deal.It was unchecked this entire time, but the icon was still there. It is now gone, since I did the trick from the above post, but this thing drove me crazy
I even looked at my dads and my brothers computers to see if i could figure it out,but all the settings on theirs was the same as mine.Oh well, its gone now.I appreciate all the help.Thanks.
