Networking Passwords
Ive just migrated from Win 98SE to XP Pro..I am part of a network of 4 PCs.
In win 98 I could share my files and assign a password to any of these files that( me and only me) could access from a different PC on the network,( knowing the password.) There doesnt appear to be that option in XP. Is there? Don |

Yes there is the Option in Windows XP! Look at the Following! and it should solve your problems
To create a user account: 1. Log in as a user who is a member of the Administrators or Power Users groups. 2. Right-click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Manage. 3. The Computer Management window will appear. a. In the left pane, select Users under Local Users and Groups. b. From the Action menu, select New User. 4. The New User window will appear. On the User name line, type the username for the user. If this person has a Novell NetWare user account, you may want to use the same username. a. On the Full name line, type the person's full name. This field is optional. b. On the Description line, type a description of the user. This field is optional. c. If you want to set the user's password now, type the password in both the Password and Confirm Password lines. The password is case-sensitive, so you may want to type it in lower case. d. If you want the user to change their password after they log in, then check the User must change password at next logon box. After creating the user, you may want to edit the user account and check the Password never expires box. e. Click Create. You will return to the Computer Management window and the new user will appear in the right pane. The user has been created. You may want to add the user to a group. |

Thanks for your replies, it looks a lot more complicated than I thought, in win 98 all you did was right click the shared file,go to sharing and there you had a choice of whether to make the file Read Only,Full etc and whether to asign a password to it. (Job Done)
