SBL and XP ISSUE

I want to know if anybody experienced this issue before, as it happened to me.

Long time ago, I used to run WINXP PRO, AMD Athlon XP 1800+, VIA KT333 Chipset, Geforce 4 MX 440, IBM 80GB 7200 ATA 100 Hard Drive, 256MB of DDR RAM PC2100 Crucial, 48X Lite-On, Sound Blaster Live...

When I would run XP, if I were to execute a program or just browse the web, leave the PC running for like 5-10 minutes, I would receive a blue screen stating " IRQ_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL".

I would also get Invalid Page Fault Blue Screens, but I believe I fixed that when I replaced the RAM.

I believe I did not get those IRQ errors when I did not have SBL installed. The SBL was seated in the middle PCI slot, and I checked that I did not have any IRQ conflicts or anything.

I read on Viaarena.com FAQ section, that it had a question that said they experienced trouble with SBL with XP. They said to remove SBL, install 4 in 1 drivers, then install SBL, and then install 4 in 1 drivers again. I am wondering if this is successful?

I do not remember the troubleshooting steps I have taken. Because this was a long time ago, maybe about 10 months. But I think when I took out the SBL, I did not receive those errors. Not too sure.

I am wondering if anybody got similar problems like this? What could cause this? I do not get these errors with WIN 98SE, and I am running the same hardware. Perhaps this could of been a driver issue with WINXP and SBL, or perhaps I really needed those 4 in 1 drivers from VIAARENA.COM? Anybody got any ideas?

I have this motherboard, works great with WIN98SE. MSI KT3 Ultra2 MS-6380E.

I have even tried moving the SBL into another PCI slot, although I would get the same result. I ran out of ideas, so I really gave up on it, formatted and installed Windows 98SE. Also, could this be an issue if I were to install WIN2K?

Another thing is, my cousin has a similar setupi like mine. Except his is a 1.4Ghz T-Bird, 256Mb of DDR RAM PC2100(Samsung) SBL, and he runs XP PRO just fine. He has an EPOX motherboard with the VIA 266 chipset. He tells me he does not experience any problems like I did.

There were some issues with Soundblasters and XP when XP was released in Oct, 2001. Creative released new drivers not to long after that if I remember correctly. I never did experience any blue screens but the card didn't work correctly with XP. I haven't had any problems with the last two or three sets of drivers from www.creative.com

I have contacted Creative about this, and they suggested to go install the 4 in 1 VIA drivers and also get the latest drivers for SBL before you install any drivers for SBL.

Will try that next time I install another operating system.

Also. Was this an issue with WIN2K aswell?

Thanks for the reply guys. Really appreciate it.

Markoman,

I have been having the same exact problems. And if you look at my specs we have just about the same exact setup. I have been recieving the IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue error screen message. I am going to try and reinstal again and see what happens with my computer when I leave the sound card out and install the 4 in 1 drivers and then install the sound card and then the 4 in 1 drivers again. But I will check up on your idea in a few minutes on the via website. Let me know if you have fixed this problem! Ok? Thanks....

I don't know if your SBL is one of those Cards made for other region not specifically for USA. I read about that especially those OEM one bought from Comp shows. I encountered one SBL before and the driver give me real headaches. After exhaustive searching with various sites, I finally found one and installed it
