Reformating problem

This seems to be a common problem so excuse me asking again but how can I completely wipe my C drive so that I can reload XP and not have bits n bobs left over from the previous version. I want to formatand wipe it that way it but it won't let me. One added problem is that I've got some stuff on the D drive I'd rather not lose. (I know - back it up! but that's not an option at the moment)
Thanks.

Get a bootdisk for Win98 from www.bootdisk.com
Boot the computer to that disk.
Format C.
Take the disk out.
Put in the CD.
Boot the computer, install XP.

Send a message via ICQ to RJ
Boot from your Windows XP and start installation. Somewhere in the setup you will be able to format the partition.
