Unhappy Display problem

Hello PC Mech members and non-members,
I have a problem with the display in Win 2000. I've a dual boot system running on my system. I'm running Win 98 SE and Win 2000. The problem is that I get a faint white lines when ever I start Win 2000. Firstly I thought it was the problem of my monitor but in Win 98 SE I don't see this line...What could be the problem? I'm still not able to rectify the prob. Is it the prob with the display drivers or refresh rate? Should I update the display drivers? Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My PC configuration is as follows:
O/S : Windows 2000 Pro, 128Mb Ram, 700MHz processor, Intel 810 Graphics Controller.

View the screenshot of my desktop of Win 2000 here

You may want to try updating your drivers in Windows 2000.

hi scott,
thanks for your response. It's not the prob with my monitor. I don't see these lines when I start Win 98. You can see the screenshot of it here : Screenshot of the lines

Whenever I run win 2000 Pro I see these lines. Observe the faint lines a few inches from the right. You can see it...

Thanks!

Well, I can't see your screenshots for some reason, I keep getting redirected to some search engine called insider.com. Anyway, if they are small horizontal lines that just flash on and go away again, you might try lowering your color depth (like if you are using 24 bit True Color, try using 16 bit High Color instead). Updating the driver probably wouldn't hurt either. I had that problem a long time ago but I don't remember exactly what I did for it. Seems like it was the color depth, but it might have also been the refresh rate or when I tried to use a higher screen resolution. Can't remember for sure. Basically, try changing each one until you get one that makes it go away.

hi scott,
I'll try reinstalling the drivers and see if it works. Should I update the drivers for Win 2000 Pro? It works fine on Win 98. Thanks!

Okay, that worked scott_d. Well, if it's your monitor, it must be mine too because all I see is a desktop with a bunch of icons on it; no lines or fuzzies though.

hmm...this is puzzling...if we cant see them on the screen shot, then it might not be software/driver related, but if its not, then idk what to think

still think you should update the drivers just to see what happens

It'll probably still be one of the things mentioned above. If Sudy is seeing them and we're not, it's probably because of the drivers or settings on that computer. They may look like they're in the snapshot to him because the lines are overlaying on the picture on his screen. All we get is the actual image without the display problems though.
