Win2kPro boot problem
A friend of mine has Win 2K Pro installed on Drive D and Win98 installed on drive C. She boots to Win2K on drive D, and would like to get rid of drive C. However, every time she removes drive C and sets up drive D to be the primary master (which is no problem to do correctly), Windows 2000 Pro doesn't like it and won't boot. Is there any way to work around this without doing a clean install?
Thanks |

I would just leave win2k on d. You can delete everything you do not want off of c and use it for storage. You can fix the boot menu either by editing it manually or doing a repair of win2k. If you try and make d the master, you will have problems since program / registry entries point to d. There is no reason that you have to have the os on c unless you really want it that way.

Thanks for your help! I want to remove drive C and use it for another machine. How can I go about editing the boot menu of the Win2K drive D to change it to drive C? Or how do I go about doing the repair? I think I can do it if you point me in the right direction. I'm just new to Win2k.
Thanks |

If you are going to remove one hd, then the one on which win2k is on will become c. Since all programs will look to d there may be some problems. Partition Magic has what it calls drive mapper. It will change references from d to c in the registry. Other than that if you are going to have just one drive I would backup everything and do a clean install. Unless you want to purchase PM. This is the only way I know of to fix the problem. Someone else may know of a better way to approach this issue.

Make your win2k drive C, boot to the CD, run repair.
