Ok here is one for you tech-heads.... I have been researching this for about 2 months and I can not for the life of me figure it out... I have winXP pro on my toshiba laptop and when it boots up it goes to the check disk file integrity and freezes at 6% everytime and the only way to stop it is to catch it right before it starts when you can press any key to skip the process. I'm not sure if I am just overlooking something or if something is actually wrong. I just want to disable it for now until I format my HD in about a month or so. I also have the delay after boot up when it sits in windows and will not let me do anything for about 2 minutes while it does its little thing, I am great with computers but WinXP is not my thing so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Try this to see if you can disable check disk on each start-up.
Go to a command prompt and type chkdsk /f It should tell you something like the volume is in use, but do you want to run checkdisk on the next start-up, y or n. Is there a Y in there now? If so, change to an N. In reality, this should reset to a N after the first time the system restarted, but maybe since yours is freezing it never completes and the Y setting is causing it to run on start-up.

if check disk is failing to compleat then it will run on every reboot you may have a anti virus prog wich is causing ckdisk to stop or a bad disk error

Chck Disk on XP startup
Well, I thought of the anti virus issue also but I have taken care of that and it still is going on. But yes I am sure both of you are right it is freezing in the middle of the check and wont turn off until it is complete, so my question is where can I disable it completely. I am trying Davidoo's solution now and hoping it works post in a minute.....

ok, well thanks for your help both of you and davidoo great suggestion but its just not working. I am just gonna cut my losses and wipe this thing clean anyway. Further recommendations for everyone. Do not try to do a fresh install of any windows version on the Toshiba s5005-504 because you lose all the drivers and Toshiba doesn't have much of anything to download for it.
