win xp service packs

Hi everyone,

What do you all think about installing the winxp service packs from the windows update site? Is it necessary? Should I also take up space on my computer for the "archive files" for uninstalling it?

Has anyone installed it only to find they had to get rid of it?

And last question is...if I install it...is there a way to find out everything that was installed so I can get rid of the stuff I didn't need or are you just stuck with everything they put in the packs?

thanks in advance

Well, since SPs are supposed to released for the purpose of fixing bugs, it would be a good idea to install them, especially if you are experiencing problems that the SP addresses.

I've never heard of anyone having to remove a service pack. But, never say never they say...

This should help answer some of your questions

You can go to M$ website and find a detail list of everything that is included in XP SP1. Some people have had some problems with it but very few. You can't remove the whole thing if you don't select the option to archive old files. I think it 's a good idea to keep your OS updated. I have upgraded a large number of computers to SP1 and on a few I have had to renter network settings but other than that it has always gone well. You can download alot of it individually but it will make for a much cleaner install if you install the whole thing at once.

If the computer is not networked and is never online and you are happy with it I wouldn't consider SP1 to be necessary. But I have updated all of mine even my workstations that are never on the internet. Every one of my machines seems to be a little bit more responsive as well.

I advise you to get it. It fixes several security holes.

Cool Thanks all

I'll do the update with the service packs today. Who knows maybe once I do this I can get my printer working with XP.

Thanks again for the advice.
