whenever I right click on a blank area on any web page, the popup menu contains an unwanted shortcut. How do I get rid of it?

As a matter of fact, your question was in a recent issue of PC Magazine: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,543495,00.asp
Basically, the cure involves a Registry edit of the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt You look for the offending option and delete it. ____ By the way, if the option was placed there by Ad-based software, you can also try downloading & running AdAware, which can scan your computer for spyware and adware that might be slowing your system down without your consent. AdAware is available at http://www.lavasoft.de AdAware will offer to remove Registry entries placed there by spyware. Best of luck, & Happy Holidays . . . Gary |

ALWAYS make a backup of the registry before making reg hacks. I have leaned from experience that even the most routine registry edits can have disasterous results and without a backup you are hosed.

Win98 and SE make a backup of the reg, once per day, on the first boot up.
If you mess something up during the day, boot to DOS, and run Scanreg, select to restore a previous working version, select today's date (or yesterday's to be sure) and let it do it's thing. The only time you really need to do a reg backup, is if you leave your system on 24/7, and have made lots of changes since it's last successful boot. |

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Gary, you win the prize. I read the article you recommended, went to regedit, deleted the offending option, and WHAM! It's all gone. Thanks again and Merry Christmas. God Bless.
