ALS4000 sound driver fails to work with winxp!

I have installed Windows XP on my computer with an Avance ALS4000 sound card. When the ALS4000 drivers are being installed into my computer, it crashes immediately after reaching the end of the installation. I always must have to press the reset button on the CPU to restart the system.
After restarting the system, then my modem fails to work with WinXP anymore. I have reinstalled the modem driver and the system cannot recognize it anymore unless I reinstall Windows XP . Previously the modem worked fine before I have installed that dreaded sound driver.
And one more, the drivers are said to be compatible with Windows XP ( digitally signed ) and the system does not see that the drivers are digitally signed.
One of the drivers for Windows XP mentioned below has only two files:
1. al_10.exe
2. winxp.exe
3. winxp.zip
4. als4000winxp.zip
( And other files similar to the ones that mentioned above! )
Where are all the important VXDs and the other DLLs for these drivers? I need the WDM sound driver for Windows XP and all I have found are only the files mentioned above. Finally my Windows XP is mute! No sound!

P.S : Should I install Windows XP service pack?

According to what I've read around the 'net, that card is not fully supported my WinXP -- I read a number of stories similar to your regarding the installation of that card and it's drivers.

I think the primary reason is that with Win2000 and WinXP, M$ dropped the VXD drivers for soundcards and has gone to new directsound drivers (WDM). The only drivers I can find for that card are VXD drivers -- there do not appear to be any WDM drivers. Considering the age of that card, I would jsut upgrade and save yourself the hassle.

If I buy Creative Vibra 128 and install it into my comp, will my WinXP home edition fully support it? I hope so.
