Have you gone to BIOS and set your Hard drive (or IDE device) as the first boot device?

Hi refcol2002,

Is your hard drive recognized by the BIOS correctly?

Check your drive jumpers to make sure they're set properly for the type of IDE cable you're using. If you're using the older style 40 wire IDE cable, set the drive jumpers to master or slave. If you're using the newer 80 wire IDE cables, set the drive jumpers to CS (cable select).

Did you do a clean install of WinXP Pro or did you upgrade from a previous OS?

Hi, Cricket. I did a clean install but like i said not being a genius with computers i don't know wether i even cabled it up properly. you've hit a good point about the cables,i've just put in a jetway v333u motherboard with a 2000xp processor and used both old and new cables to set it up,the new that i got with my motherboard i've used with hard drive and floppy the old i,m using with my cd rom could that be the problem.
