copying program's to put on another computer
this is probibly another lame guestion. (if i don't, know then i ask) i have a computer with ms- word and excel. and i want to copy the program, and install it to another computer. i know that if you copy the folder, in dosen't install the program to the said computer. it's a gateway p-5 90 with win 98 and it doesn't have a cd-burner to copy it to a c-d. i don't have the ms- word or excel disk, to just install it to the other computer, any input will be helpfull. tks slingslingbinks

if youe have a licenced version of the program and plan to remove it from one pc and install it on another but have lost the install disks you will nead ontrack sys suit version4 this has a transport prog to do just that if you donot have a cdrw you can put the old hdd in the new computer as slave and move the program from thair your licence key will be req for some programs.you may not use the same prog on 2 computers

ok, I found the program here:
http://www.v-com.com/product/ss_ind.html but couldn't find a part of the program that does what you claim it does from the website's descriptions...can you explain what part of VCOM (was Ontrack) SystemSuite 4.0 lets you install programs from one hd to another?? |

When I had an ancient laptop with no CD drive, I just copied all the files in the office directory from my PC over to the same directory on the laptop (using several floppies). It worked fine, though.

hey force_flow2002, that would be cool. it doesn't matter if it's floppy or cd-rom, so i take it that you make a folder on the puter with out the program, copy all of the content's from the program on the puter that has it and load the copyed content's of the program into the new folder you just made, on the puter that doesn't have the program, and i take it that there is no install of the progran, becuse all of it's in the puter, from the copyed file's, right? let me know if i'm on right track here? c-ya sling

Yes. The directory is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\" for Office 2000. All it is is copying from the one computer, and pasting it onto the other in the same directory.
For example: PC #1 - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\" (copy) PC #2 - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\" (paste) Last edited by Force Flow; 01-24-2003 at 10:30 PM. |

You should be able to just copy the whole directoty into the other drive and it should run fine. Unless you need to download like a utility that does it for you.

i tried to drag and drop the file from d drive (slave)/program files/ microsoft office, to c drive (master)/ program files folder, and it appear's that there is a problem with the origional program that is on my slave drive. there are many missing file's in both program's. i have another puter with microsoft office on it. i'll try to slave in it's hard drive and copy that program on to my master, i'll keep you informed. c-ya sling

Are you copying just one file or the whole directory? If just one file, you'll need the whole directory.

hey force _flow2002 what i'm doing is double clicking, my computer, then double clicking D: (slave) drive, double clicking program files. that open's up all of the program files on my slave drive. i then minimize the screen and then double click my computer, then double click C: (master) drive. i then have both screens up, one is the content's of C:\, the other is D:\Program files. i then drag and drop the file, from under program file's, microsoft office, D: drive to C:drive program files, it's the hole file not just one part or folder, pls let me know if is not what i should do, also what about the regestery, sence it's copyed from D: drive to C: drive. will the regestery be labled as a C: or a D:. sence the org. download was installed on a C: drive and now it's a D: drive, this isn't like i'm copying the disk, becuse i own the hard-drive that it is installed on. this is so confusing that i think i'll just go and spend the big buck's and buy microsoft office c-ya sling

Hi, I got your PM.
![]() Just try it without fooling with registry. That's what I did. Excel just came up with an error when I started it, but I just clicked OK each time. It worked fine.
