Microsoft gave the ole heave-ho to the ole scandisk utility (thank goodness); so now the new version, though a bit cumbersome to access is much better.
You can right click on any drive from My computer or Win Explorer, and then go to Properties > tools > check disk
Or you can open a Command Prompt (START > RUN > cmd) and do chkdsk c:

To note is that sometimes, you might be prompted for a reboot to check a drive - this is cos the drive may be in use (instead of the old scandisk which would keep restarting over and over ..); in which case, whenever you decide to reboot, it will run a disk check before you enter your GUI.

Statica,
Thanks for the reply.
I loaded W2K on a IBM HDD that is probably on it's last legs and I wanted see if there were more bad sectors.
I really need to get the drive RMA'd.

Hey Kubie:
If there's one thing that I've learnt over the years is not to take everything MS does with a pinch of salt. Why not use a good disk analyzer - IBM has some good tools - http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/download.htm

Statica,
Thanks for the link, but I did use IBM'S DFT and had it fix the sectors. I'm ready to RMA it but want to make sure I follow all of IBM'S instructions.
BTW, after running flawlessly for 15 months; it started to make more and more noise and lost a couple sectors. IBM's DFT says "Excessive Shock".

Kubie,
I have been running my IBM drive for about 6 months now..flawless right now..but the noise coming out of it kinda bothers me even though the IBM DFT says everything passed....Like the noise is like a small buzzing noise....doesn't bother me though when I am playing games, etc.
