No sound on media player

I just installed xp home edition from a clean format and i got a problem. I installed all my drivers for sound and others. I get sound when playing games and stuff but not in the media player. I get an error when i try to play a mp3 or any other sound. Any help would be appreciated.

A solution that has worked for others (your mileage may vary ):

Download and install the latest version of DirectX which you can get here.

I highly recommend you follow Microsoft's suggestion at the bottom of that page...make a restore point before proceeding with the install.
