Windows 2k Network Administrator?
My computer all of the sudden, thinks there is a network administrator. I can't install new software, I can't change the settings. It says, I don't have privilages to do that, and I have to log in as the administrator. I do not know how this happened, or how to get rid of it. I do have my kids computer hooked to mine using a crossover cable, that is the extent of my network. Can anyone offer some advise, so I can have control of my system again? Thanks

You are going to have to log in as "Administrator" and change your account.

Thats the problem, I don't know what happened, I don't have a password for the administrator, I never entered one, therefore I can't log in as the administrator.

Usually the person who fresh install the OS for Win2000, by default is the administrator. He may choose to give a password, or leave it 'blank', when the OS asks for them in the installation process. Just for info, though It doesn't help much

If no password was ever entered just leave it blank and try. If that doesn't work a password was entered.
The person who installed it may have adminstrator priveleges but there is still an Administrator account that overrides all acounts. You shouldn't be using this account for day to day use just for these very reasons. Last edited by Tuf; 12-27-2002 at 12:22 AM. |

When I installed 2k a few months ago, I entered my first name as the user and I did enter a password for that account. I never saw anything about an administrator until now. I have tried logging on as the administrator and I tried using all the passwords that I normally use, I have a few different words that I use. None of them work. Is there anyway to reset the password?

Ok, I got past the password problem. I have been able to log in as the administrator. Does anyone know how to get rid of the administrator all together? I want to able to log into my computer with my name and have access to all functions. Right now, the way it is, I have to log off, log in as the administrator, do whatever I need to then log back in with my name. I want to completely do away with the administrator!!

You don't want to do that! You can give your account (your name) Admin privileges. But you always want to retain the Administrator Account.
I think it is possible to disable the account but I wouldn't do that either. It is there for just the reason it is named after. |

Once you've log-on as the administrator, you actually are the 'Owner', you'll no longer see anymore 'prompt ' for those messages for administrator authentification. I don't see the problem anymore.
