ActiveX problem. Security settings prohibit etc etc with a twist

Problem is:

Turn on computer Starts OK.

Click start button. It remiains pressed in but no menu appears. Will not unclick.

No folder will show items instead i get this error message: "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page as a result, this page may not display correctly"

Now when i go to Options > Security > And look for the normal Security settings there is no web content zones at all?!?!?!?

What do i do? please help me.

Try to open an internet explorer window. If you have netscape I can't help. If internet explorer will open go to tools, internet options. Then if internet options pops up go to security. click on customize. The first settings will be ActiveX. You need to ensure that "run activex controls" and activex scripting are enabled. If they already are then I have sent you to the wrong spot.

If this is not the problem, repost with Operating system and any changes you may have made to the system. Have you ever had a "tweak" program installed, such as TweakUI or similar?

Its a mates computer i think its windows 98

i have done as you said already and the problem is there is no web content zones shown?!?!?!

so any other ideas?

try booting from a win98 floppy and run scanreg if it finds no problams try scanreg restore
