I noticed that when I press the F8 key and do a step by step boot that there is NO config.sys file loading (even after editing and creating one in the root dir) ME does not boot like windows 98 SE. I am trying to setup a RAMDRIVE.Sys by normaly loading DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\RAMDRIVE.SYS 1000 /E
this normaly loads via the config.sys file can anyone provide help ? Thanks Jim Horak eaglekeeper1@hotmail.com eaglekeeper1@netzero.com |

In windows, open a DOS window and create your CONFIG.SYS file and put in whatever you need. Save the file, exit back to windows. Go to RUN and type MSCONFIG. You will get a message about AUTOEXEC and CONFIG info has been imported into the registry. Exit and reboot.

Sir I tried what you said and ran MSCONFIG and did not see the prompt you mentioned.

Just a suggestion - and please don't take offense - and this applies to your other post in this forum:
Go back to 98SE. With ME, M$ is trying to totally wean us from DOS. Maybe it will be a bit easier to work with and the "features" fixed when they bring out the first service pack. |

I'm not sure why that didn't work for you as it has worked on other machines I have tried it on.
As for losing DOS, check the Tips and Tricks forum. I posted a link that shows how to put real mode DOS back into ME. I tried it at work and it worked out quite well. |

What happens is, on bootup MS got rid of real mode. Now, if I remember correctly, it is possible to make it use it, but you have to do something special, and it might only be if you upgraded from 98/95/98se.
