What to backup?

My copy of WinXP Pro RC1 will expire in 6 days. I need to backup my data before reinstalling it.

What folders must I burn into a CD?

TIA for the input.

boy, that is a tuff one nuke, as you already know, any data that you do not want to loose, but in xp there is so much that is put in the regestry that if you don't do a complete reformat, it will still be there, which does mean reinstalling everything again anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply, bailey. I'll format the partition indeed. I was wondering if "Documents and settings" is the only folder I should backup.

Also, where are the e-mails from OE located? I don't wanna lose them!

I back up any file I create. Plus I save all of my Office settings. I back up most of my email folders a couple of times per week.

I have found the most reliable way to back up my email is to just copy and paste all of the mail in a folder to another folder which I drag to CDRW using InCD. I can back it all up in a couple of minutes including my contacts folder.

On my Office machine I ghost my C partition to another drive approx twice a month sometimes more often if I'm making big changes or Installing a new program.

if you back up any thing win xp will know it has bean instaled all ready and lock you out you best bet is to buy a full oem copy of winxp the rc1 copy will stop working some time next year as microsoft placed a small virus on them to stop people from cheating

Will it stop working just like dat? Or will it display a warning like it's doing this time.

AFAIK the RC1 supports up to 10 installs. But you really have me worried now.

thanks for that quick answer andyms18a, was curios about that when i read about the ten installs,

it does sound like something MS would do, the virus part i mean, i guess a good idea(if they think so)
Thanks

Restricting the use of beta software is not a "virus". They were letting people use a three hundred dollar operating system(retail) for free with some limitations. It's a good deal for the consumer and it was a good deal for Microsoft.

Well, we're into 2003 and so far it's still working.

Will it stop in a certain date or something?
