System Disk
Question: I have Windows 98 running on my PC, but my kids seem to have lost the recovery disk. Before I run into problems, can I make (burn) a back up? All Iwant is to have a back up.

Are you saying they have lost the boot disk, or the Win98 CD itself? If you just lost the boot disk, no big deal as the Win98 CD is a bootable CD and a separate bootdisk is not required. If you have lost the actual CD, check for the directory C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS which will have the installation files which you can burn to a CD for future installation. You can call Microsoft and get a replacement CD rather cheap.

HAL9000 AND ZANEY123,
Thanks for the replies. Basically, I am upgrading the motherboard and processor and I need a Win98 bootup disk to do the initial boot up and get into the BIOS. I managed to find the "recovery disk" from my HP Pavillon 5365. I was trying to create a floppy system startup disk to use for my upgrade, but when I do this, the instructions asks me to insert the Win98 CD ROM which I do not have. When I insert the Recovery Disk, it does not work. Regards, Jesse |

go to www.bootdisk.com to get a new boot disk for 98. you might have to buy a new OS since they only gave you the recovery cd which is just a image of your original drive, which since you are changing the motherboard of your computer the recovery cd wont work.
Zaney123 edit: here is the link right to the bootdisk you need. http://www.mirrors.org/archived_soft...s/boot98se.exe Last edited by ZANEY123; 12-30-2002 at 11:41 AM. |
