I'm going to be installing W2K on this machine soon and I have a question.
I have a WD 80g mb cache HDD divided into 4 partitions. Can I load and format C: with W2K and keep the other partitions as they are? If I have saved some files on D:, E:, and F:, will I beable to still open them in W2K? An example would be photos stored on D: and opened with Photosuite on C:. TIA Carl |

Yes, you can. NTFS5 can see FAT32 but not the other way around.
But since the OS will be running from the NTFS partition you will have no probs.

Yes but you should still back up the other partitions any time you are messing with the drive at such a basic level such as formatting or changing the file system.
I've never had it go wrong but it could. |

Thanks for the heads up, Tuf.
Just might change the whole HDD over and change partitions from 4 to 3. A large space partition would be best for my future video capture and editing. Carl |

Hey Carl, have you ever had a chance to check out the video capture & editing software 'Final cut pro' ?
Yes I know that's for the Mac, dont know if you have used them at all much, but the latest version makes Adobe Premiere look simple and basic. My brother has it on his new G4 laptop, which also has a DVD burner in it, sort of makes me sick, but anyway I thought it was a pretty heafty, powerfull program. His hardware may of helped it look that way too. If your going to be capturing video directo to the hdd (which I'm pretty sure you will) I would format the drive in FAT32, I think maybe this will be a little faster and also prevent certain small problems in the future when capturing, file converting, and DMA to the drive, ect... The win2k OS will still be able to see/access any other partition thats formated in NTFS, |
