problem with screensaver

when i touch the mouse when the screensaver is on it takes a while for the desktop to show up. usually it just instantly shows up but now it takes a sec. or so and then it shows up. not sure how i got this problem. have winxp professional. any ideas on this one? thanks.

Hi bhome83,

What screensaver are you using? For more complex 3D ones it may have to change the monitor resolution back or refresh the screen, which it why it takes a second.

im using the ones that came with winxp professional. the ones that take a while to show the desktop are indeed the 3d ones like 3d flowerbox, 3d flying objects, 3d pipes, and 3d text. the other ones work fine like the one im using now called mystify. doesn't make sense though cuz i don't remember having this problem before. 3d ones used to work fine w/o any delay in showing the desktop. could there be something wrong with my monitor or does everyones computer do this with these screensavers?

Do you defrag your hard drive regularly?

Do you have a lot of icons on your desktop?

What about background programs? Do you have a lot of stuff running while in Windows?

no i don't really defrag at all . **** thanks for reminding me though. i did defrag my C: drive about a month ago but probably haven't defragged the D: drive in a few months Do you know for a fact that defragging would do this to the computer? I also notice that when i set for my computer to turn off the monitor after like 20min or so it won't turn off. it will just turn off the screensaver and go to the desktop and not turnoff. well right now i have 24 icons on my desktop but i usually always have a lot like that (if that is considered alot). my startup folder really doesn't have that many programs running on startup. it has Zonealarm, microsoft ofice (why would i need office to startup?), scanner software program (probably don't need that), adobe gamma loader (whatever that is), qttask, evntsv, (whatever those are) icqlite( probably don't need that), winamp (don't need that either), atiptaxx (whatever that is). some of these things im not sure if i need them on startup so i would rather not disable them until i know for sure.
