Windows Grinding?
I dont know why its doing this but it does so on my dads home edition of XP and my prof. edition of XP. But whenever windows loads once at the desktop it takes about a minute or so before we can do anything. Its like our computer freezes till we hear a strange grinding noise from our CPU. Then we can get online and everything. Anyone know what this is or how to fix it.

Hi CHayes1126,
Do you have a lot of background processes running on your computer? Is the grinding noise coming from the floppy drive? Cricket

Hi CHayes1126,
I'm not familiar with the current Norton AV but it could be set to scan the floppy drive at boot up as well as do some other kind of system scan or something when Windows loads...that might be what's holding up the system. Cricket

I have Norton antivirus 2003, and it definately scans the floppy on boot up. If you get Norton up on the screen, there is an item to disable this among the options, and to disable floppy check on shut down.
